

Gene, as he was affectionately known, was born in Waycross, Georgia on September 26, 1933 to Clarence Eugene Mullis, Sr. and Ruth Fountain Mullis. He was raised in Jacksonville where he lived his entire life. He graduated from The Bolles Military Academy in 1953 and attended the University of Florida before beginning his long career in banking with Florida National Bank and its successor banks, retiring from Wells Fargo in 1991. Gene then enjoyed a successful second career in real estate with Watson Realty Corp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his beloved wife Shirley Brinson, with whom he had just celebrated their 70th anniversary on January 9, 2024.
They had two loving children, Stephanie Ann Mullis, and Clarence E. (Tres) Mullis and his wife, Amy. They were blessed with three grandchildren, Ashlynne, Brinson, and Tess. He is also survived by his twin sisters, Jacque and Joy; many nieces and nephews; and many loving friends. He and Shirley joined Deermeadows Baptist Church in 2022, following more than sixty years at Southside Baptist Church, where he served as an ordained deacon and treasurer for many years.
He enjoyed golf, fishing, college football, particularly the Florida Gators, and spending time with family and friends.
Funeral and burial services will be TODAY, January 30, 2024, at noon, with visitation at 11:00 a.m. at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel- 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville.
