
POWELL- Clayton Powell, 89, loving husband and devoted father went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 25th, 2012. He died at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was born in Wheeler County, Georgia and was married to his wife, Corene on March 18th, 1944. Clayton served his country in the Army during World War II. He started Clayton Powell Drywall, Inc. in 1961 and was the owner until his retirement in 1988. He was a dedicated member of Lannie Rd. Baptist Church since 2006 and a proud member of the Gideons and Woodmen of the World. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doel and Mammie Lou Powell; a sister, Eva Mae Jones; and brothers, Owen, Woodrow, Lowell and Ray Powell. His surviving family includes: his wife of 68 years, Corene; 2 daughters, Sandra (James) Boyette and Vickie Tison; four grandchildren, Terri Boyette, Clay(Mandy) Braswell, Billy(Tabitha) Braswell, and Shelly Boyette; three sisters, Lois Craft, Nell Craft, and Lucille Gauthreaux; a brother, H. C. Powell; seven great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 28th at 10:00 AM at Lannie Rd. Baptist Church, 5998 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville 32218 with Pastor Buddy Wimberly, Jr. and Rev. James Boyette officiating. Interment will follow at Alamo Cemetery in Alamo, GA at 4:00PM. The family will receive friends at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Ave., Wednesday (TODAY) from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please make donations, in his memory, to Building Fund at Lannie Road Baptist Church.
