

passed away peacefully with his family by his side away on March 26, 2024 at the age of 89.
Jay survived his wife of 66 years, Louise Travis Pumphrey who passed away March 19th 2023.
They had three children together, Daughter Martha Kay Pumphrey, (husband Bob Pettigrew)
Clyde Philip Pumphrey (wife Cindy Pumphrey) and Richards Hills Pumphrey (MaryBeth Dykes)
4 grandchildren, Taylor Noel Pumphrey, Connor Hills Pumphrey, Katlyn Louise Pumphrey, and
Zhanna Grace Pumphrey. He was preceded in Death by his parents, Clyde Franklyn Pumphrey,
Grace Webber Pumphrey and his brother Tom Gary Pumphrey.
Jay was born November 6, 1934 in West Palm Beach Florida. His family moved to Jacksonville,
Florida when he was around the age of 12. He graduated from Robert E. Lee high school and
joined the Marine Corp serving 4 years as a 2nd Marine Air Wing mechanic and Sergeant. And 4
years in the reserves. After the Marine Corp, Jay had a career in sales retiring in his late 50’s.
Jay was a member of the Florida Yacht Club, a volunteer fireman, enjoyed offshore fishing,
motor racing, working on and restoring old cars, and was known for being able to fix just about
anything. (A Jack of all trades). Jay never knew a stranger and if you meet anyone who knew
him, they would say what a nice guy he was. He was a great husband, father and a friend to
many.

There will be a reception following the service at the home of Martha Pumphrey, 1804 Mourning

A graveside service for Clyde will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
