She was raised in Geneseo, New York and moved to Gainesville, Florida after her father’s military duty. She graduated from PK Young and attended University of Florida where she met her husband Sam. Her family was very important to her. As her children grew, she became involved in the Girl Scouts of America as a leader for many years. She was a volunteer at one of Jacksonville’s first pre-schools and was later hired as a teacher and worked in that capacity for ten years. Later in life, Neena was involved in visitation to hospitals and nursing care facilities and loved making people smile with her singing stuffed bears. She actively participated in numerous Methodist Mission trips to the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Panama and Havana, and Cuba where she was involved in various projects meeting the needs of the people. She and Sam were members of Riverside Park United Methodist Church for 42 years and Avondale Methodist for 24 years.
