Daniel was my neighbor in Tampa, Florida. We were just casual neighbors, usually talking over the fence or in the front yards about dogs - his German Shorthair Pointers and my Beagles. He was always the nicest young man with such an infectious smile. I regret that I didn't get to know him better. In his memory, I have donated $100 to Southeast German Shorthair Pointer Rescue. My son actually adopted 2 GSP dogs from there many years ago. I hope that this donation will help a GSP dog(s) find a forever home(s) in Daniel's memory. Wishing his family comfort and peace ahead. RIP, Daniel.

This picture was the first year I met and guided Daniel. He was our last hunt of the year. Talking with him when he arrived and knowing I was going to be his guide I asked him “what kind of deer are you interested in Daniel?” He said “I like them wide.” So I had a perfect deer in mind for him but we literally called this deer “The Ghost”. We hunted him with several other clients that season but he always eluded us. Well very first sit, literally first 10 minutes into the hunt “The Ghost” walks in like he had done it a million times. I looked at Daniel and I said “hey man that’s him if you like him take him”.  Daniel of course was freaking out told me it was the biggest deer of his life. Within 10 minutes the deer was dead. After Daniel shot him he looked at me and said “well that was easy!” All my hype and talk about how hard that deer was going to be to kill and Daniel got it done the first 10 minutes of our very first hunt together. I guess you can say he definitely had the luck when it came to hunting big Texas whitetail! Or what I like to think was God knew how appreciate of a man Daniel was and saved “The Ghost” for him. All those times he gave us the slip was for a reason. I’m extremely privileged to be able to spend the time I did with him out at Bar None and will miss him this next season. I’ll be thinking of him when I’m out in the deer blind. RIP bud.

When Beau was just a puppy, Daniel had several things to do around the house in Starkville and trusted me to take Beau on a little puppy outting to get some ice cream and socialize. As I got out of the car at lowes, grabbed my bag and shut my door to go around to the passenger side and grab him, he locked the door!!!!!! I immediately panicked and pleaded with him to unlock it, but ultimately had to call the fire department to get that little ham out of the car. I remember being so afraid to tell Daniel, and he just busted out laughing and thanked everyone involved. He even let me continue to hang out with Beau when he was busy LOL. Babian was such a good friend to me and many others for years, and I will think fondly of him and his family every time I see a GSP, a white tail, or get a good catch at the lake. 

Daniel Babian, you were one of a kind. You had the most contagious laugh and a huge heart. I will forever cherish the many memories with you at all our formals, State games, hunting, and kayaking. You helped shaped me into the person I am today. I’m forever thankful for the wonderful memories with you. I will always think of you when “These Boots” by Eric Church comes on the radio because you LOVED to sing so loud to that song. You will be missed so much. You always held out a helping hand to anyone who needed help and that showed how much of a wonderful man you are. You always have and always will have a place in my heart. Until I see you again.. xoxo 


We are still so stunned by the news of Daniel's passing and send you our deepest condolences.   So very sorry for the tragic loss of your dear son.  Our condolences go out to Daniel's parents, Edgar and Julie, his brother, Nathan, his fiancé Carly and  extended families.
