After graduating from High School, Darlene served in the United States Army from 1973 to 1976. After her years in service, she spent her career working in retail and banking until her retirement. Darlene, a devoted Catholic, was a member of San Jose Catholic Church. She was a genuine, kind and caring soul who never met a stranger. She loved to visit with all of her family members as much as possible. She was a huge fan of everything Mickey Mouse, loved adventures and to explore and was often heard to say, “I’m not sure where I’m going and I don’t know when I’ll be back”. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she loved to share the tradition of making Apple Santas with her nieces and nephews.
Darlene was a loyal and loving sister and aunt who had a huge impact on everyone in her life. Her family and friends meant everything to her. She was so proud of her family's accomplishments and loved sharing those accomplishments with everyone. She always brought treats to the “kiddos” as she called everyone and the treats didn’t stop with the kids as she always had treats for the pets too. She always said yes to one more cup of coffee or one more hand of cards. She always said yes to family. Darlene exemplified living a faithful life. She guided many family members' religious upbringings and always offered to add us to her prayer list. Her faith was resolute and ultimately brought her peace. Her kind heart and faith-based strength will now be our comfort and our challenge to live our best lives. She truly made each person in her life feel like they were the most special person in the world.
The Memorial Service will be on Friday, June 7th at 1:00 p.m. at San Jose Catholic Church, 3619 Toledo Rd A, Jacksonville, FL 32217. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Catholic Relief Services.
