David Causey Mason, 46, passed away peacefully September 14, 2020 surrounded by his loving family after a battle with ALS. He was born on January 26, 1974 in Jacksonville, FL, the son of Frank Causey Mason, Jr. and Lana Ferber Mason. David was raised in Dallas, Texas and a graduate from Texas Christian University. David spent part of his adult life in California, where he met his wife Deanna Lederer Mason. After her passing, he returned to Florida to raise his children and be closer to his family. Beloved father, son, and brother, David is survived by his two high spirited and athletic sons, Dylan and Jake. He will be dearly missed by his mother Lana Mason, sister, Carole Mason Blunk (Tony), nieces, Mason, Madison and Mackenzie, and his brother-in-law, Michael Lederer (Stacy), nieces Amanda and Eden, nephew, Ryan, as well as extended family members including his Aunt, Carol Brathune (Robert) and cousin, Christina, and Uncle George Ferber (Joann) and cousins, Craig (Diane) and George. David was predeceased by his wife Deanna Lederer Mason, father Frank Causey Mason, Jr., and loving grandmother Frances Ferber. David's legacy will be deeply rooted in the countless friendships he nurtured throughout his life. He had an innate gift to communicate, loved music, cowboy boots (like his late father), photography, books and enjoyed walking on the beach with his family looking for shark's teeth. In accordance with David's wishes, the family will honor him in a private burial ceremony at Oaklawn Cemetery on Monday, September 21, 2020 at 11:00am. The family is planning a celebration of his life in early 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial contributions be made to the ALS Association in his honor.

David was a customer of our bookstore. We became friends almost immediately due his wonderful outgoing personality. He brought the boys and it was obvious what a great dad he was. We at Chamblins will miss our dear friend.

I met David at a local coffee shop, and we became friends. He always amazed me with his love for his boys, his love for life and his thirst for knowledge. We had conversations about energy, the current geo-political landscape, a new book he had found, just about anything. David also had an amazing memory and recall. I wish within the confines of this space I could express how much David impacted my life. He introduced me to Chiaz, and that is a whole other story about the three of us. I will say that I am lucky to have had him as a friend, he was a friend I loved and cared about and I will miss him greatly. Until we will meet again my friend.

Dylan, Jake, Lana and Carol,
De and I are so very sorry about the passing of David. Words can not express what we feel for you and know there isn't much that we can say to comfort you. David was a great guy! We knew him from grade school and watched him grow into a man. We remember his great smile and warm personality. Please know that many are praying for your family and hope this will give a little bit of comfort.
Thinking and praying for you

IT was one of the great blessings of the last couple of years to have met David. We often met for coffee, discussions about wide ranging subjects, from health, to money, to off the wall matters that interested us both. He was an incredible person, he lit up the room- great style , great energy.. We had so many areas to have explored further, but he was snatched away far too early. My son Ben who did some work for him, felt the same way. Ben is also a very good golfer who would love to play a round with the boys. David was going to arrange that. My heartfelt sympathies to his family. Love you always David you made the world a better place.

I feel blessed to have known David! I have great memories that I will cherish from our days in high school and will always keep his fun loving spirit at top of mind. When I think of David, I think of love, smiles and laughter! May God bless and keep each of you during this difficult time and I am certain God and David will continue to guide his sons as long as they shall live. Love and blessings to the entire Mason family!

Our hearts are heavy with this great loss of David to your family. We pray that the Lord will carry you with His grace through this challenging time. We can only be grateful for the memories of our boys, and the fun times they had in high school when they were thick as thieves, and the fact that they were able to reconnect a friendship despite their separate lives. Lana, you were the best mom, and all of the Pearce boys loved you, as they did David. His kindness and thoughtfulness were a reflection of you and Causey. His memory will always be part of our lives.

Fondly, Karen and Bill Pennington

Our heart felt sympathy go out to David's family as we remember so many happy times growing up in Dallas. We were neighbors and David and our son, Coleman were best of friends. Our favorite memories are playing sports, Legos, and waking up everyday to a new adventure. Carol and Lana our thoughts and prayers are with you. Sandra and Joe Ward
