
David Stanley Thompson, 64, passed away on July 6, 2010 after a short, but valiant battle with cancer. Stan, as he was known to most people, was the son of the late David D. and Grace T. Thompson. Stan leaves behind three sisters, LaSelle T. Miller of Concord NC, Margaret T. Shumate, Paula T. Bennett (Mike) both from Salisbury NC, and one brother, W. Tom Thompson (Janice) of Lexington NC along with special nieces and nephews. Stan grew up in Salisbury, graduating from Boyden High School before joining the U. S. Air Force. Stan was trained and served at a number of duty stations as a technician involved with the missile defense systems. Following his military service, Stan was employed by AT&T for over 30 years. He held positions throughout the country, working in areas ranging from technical through systems work and corporate accounting. Stan had a strong love for all kinds of music. He had a particular passion for Bluegrass music and the instruments associated with it. Stan owned a number of these instruments and pursued learning to play many of them. Additionally, he loved to travel, was an avid reader and had an insatiable thirst for information. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 12th in Jacksonville, FL with visitation at the Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home 1426 Rowe Avenue at 9:45 am followed by a military service and burial in the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road in Jacksonville at 11:30 am.
