

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Edward Atchison, who departed this life on January 9, 2026, at the age of 84. Donald Edward Atchison was a cherished member of the Saint Johns, community, known for his kindness, warmth, and unwavering dedication to family and friends.
Born on February 11, 1941, in Dorchester, MA, Donald Edward Atchison was raised in a loving household by Charles and Anna Atchison. He graduated from Dorchester High, where he excelled academically and forged lifelong friendships.
Throughout his life, Donald Edward Atchison pursued a career in Aviation, making a lasting impact through his work at Jenny Beechcraft, Northern Telecom, MCI, and Planesense. He was admired for his dedication, professionalism, and the positive influence that he brought to colleagues and clients alike.
Donald Edward Atchison was a devoted husband, parent, and grandparent. He is survived by his wife, Mary Atchison; daughter, Lisa Atchison; son, Chris Atchison; grandsons, William and Jordan Harlin; and numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anna Atchison; brother, Charles Atchison; and his twin sister, Dorothy Walters.
Donald Edward Atchison served his country in the Air Force from 1961-1965, and served in the Vietnam War. Donald was also a member of the American Legion for 60 years.
Everyone who knew Donald Edward Atchison will remember his attention to detail, infectious laughter, and the joy he brought to every gathering. He was an aircraft technician and flight safety trainer for 44 years with no incidents. He also developed a flight safety manual that the FAA in Maine adopted for use. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, resilience, and safety that will endure for generations.
A service to celebrate Donald Edward Atchison's life will be held on Wednesday, January 21st at 10:30, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223. Burial will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
The visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 20th from 3pm-6pm, at the funeral home. Friends and family are invited to attend and share memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (dogoodt2t.org) in Donald Edward Atchison's honor.
Donald Edward Atchison will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
