

He was born on March 27, 1950, in Henderson, Kentucky, and moved to Jacksonville, Florida, when he was just six months old. He attended school at Christ the King Catholic Church. He graduated high school and obtained an Associate in Science degree at Florida Community College at Jacksonville. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1969–1972, fighting in Vietnam as a Lieutenant with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. After returning home, he joined the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer and retired as an Assistant Chief after serving 37 years. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, including camping, fishing, road trips, and golf. He also enjoyed collecting Native American artifacts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Redmond; his mother, Mary Helen; and his son, Aaron Brinson Ray. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ronnie; his son, Kyle; his brother, Frank Jr.; granddaughter, Lainey Ray; grandsons, Rylan Redmond Ray and Aaron Robert Ray; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Don was a very loving man and was loved by all who knew him.
His grandchildren were the light of his life and they loved, respected and adored him so much. If you needed a strong, dependable man, he was who you could always count on.
He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends...

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 742 Arlington Road N., Jacksonville, Florida 32211. The “Celebration of Life” Reception following the Church Mass will be held from 12:00 – 2:30 at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home Banquet Room, 940 Cesery Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32211
Funeral service will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery date to be later announced.
