

Mrs. Dorothy Welch Hobgood died on October 20, 2016. She was born in Manghum, Louisiana. She was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University where she met and later married, Paul J. Hobgood. Dot moved to Jacksonville in 2007 to be near her family. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in San Marco. She was also a member of Southside Newcomers Club and cherished some special friendships within the club.
Dot was predeceased by her husband, Paul, and her parents Tim Welch and Nina True. She is survived by her son, Carlton Hobgood, daughter-in-law, Leah, and granddaughters, Olivia and Addison Hobgood. Survivors also include sisters, Ruth Bode and Sue Taylor, both living in Monroe, Louisiana, and step- brother, Bert True of Metairie, Louisiana.
Dot was a licensed social worker and certified teacher. Her work included being a welfare case worker, hospital social worker for the medically indigent and as a social worker-teacher. She retired from the Gulfport, MS school system where for 18 years she worked in Support Services for migrant children and their families. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Southside Baptist Church, 1435 Atlantic Blvd., in San Marco. The family is requesting that anyone wishing to honor her memory to consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 322 Lauderdale St. North, Memphis, TN 38105.
