

He was a Jacksonville native and was the son of Hugh Knight and Thelma Knight.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Knight, Daughter Linda G. Knight, her mother Lura P. Knight, sister Constance Gantt (GA), grandchildren David D. Knight Jr., Frances Elizabeth Knight Mc Broom, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Douglas was predeceased by his son David D. Knight, Sr. and his brothers William Garrett and Ronald Knight.
He served in several branches of the military and obtained the rank of Chief before retiring from the US Coast Guard Reserve.
Upon returning to Jacksonville, FL Douglas worked for Ring Power Corporation until retiring from his business career. While in Jacksonville he and Robert “Bob” Towers, who were long term members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of St. Petersburg and Jacksonville (Arlington) organized the Buckman Bridge Unitarian Universalist Church, Orange Park, FL.
He was a graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor’s degree and Pace University (NYC) with a Master’s degree in Business. After retiring from his business career, Douglas received a Masters of Divinity degree at Union Theological Seminary (NYC). He was an Ordained Interfaith Minister. Douglas worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital (NYC) as a Certified Clinical Chaplain until his passing after a brief illness.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society or the Buckman Bridge Unitarian Church.
