Duane Russell Raines passed away on April 1, 2024 in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on March 6, 1956 to Benjamin and Katherine Raines in Akron, Ohio. After graduating from high school in 1974, and taking an extended break, Duane enlisted in the USAF. While enlisted Duane took full advantage of the opportunities the USAF afforded him. He received multiple certificates for completing various Air Force training classes and received numerous Commendation Medals. While excelling in the USAF he found time to volunteer at the USA Girl Scout Day Camp where his daughters were enrolled. Duane loved people and they loved him. In his hey day he loved camping, taking rides on his Harley, fishing and boating on the St Mary’s River. Always competitive Duane would challenge anyone to a game of pool or shuffleboard. He kept his chess board available to teach anyone who wanted to learn or not. Duane loved his family and spent many evenings with them and their friends going to the movies, bowling, hitting golf balls, playing with paintball guns or playing poker. When he wasn’t spending time with his family he would join his friends on PlayStation to conquer the world. Duane was a compassionate, lovable, intelligent man who protected his family at all costs. Duane “Pop” will live on in our hearts till we meet again. Duane is survived by his wife Sandra Grovich-Raines, daughters Lauren M. Phillips (Joseph), Catherine L. Kersey, Valerie A. Cannlon (Shawn B. Addison), son David R. Raines (Shelby), seven grandchildren, and many other loving family and friends. A committal service will be held on April 15, 2024 at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 11:00 am sharp. Please sign the virtual Tribute Wall in Duane’s honor. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Vets.
