Elton Ray Witte of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on November 22, 2020. He was born in Indian Gap, Texas on August 27, 1934. Ray graduated from Pottsville High School in 1952. He was married to JoAnn Knight on August 24, 1959.
Ray had a career in heavy equipment for M. D. Moody and Sons for 45 years. He was a member of Future Farmers of America. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years aboard CVA-11, The USS Intrepid and finished his service stationed at N.A.S. Jax.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents Oscar Henry Witte and Bertha Hulda Seider Witte, his sisters Imogene Diehl, Shirley Bottlinger, Wanda Finch, Nita Finch and and his friendly visiting owl, Geech.
Ray is survived by his wife JoAnn Witte of 61 years, his children Cynthia Witte Foss and husband Stephen Foss of St. Johns, Florida and Rebecca Witte Rose and husband Richard Rose also of St. Johns and grandchildren Stephanie Ann Foss, Katie Meghan Foss and Johnathan Ray Rose; siblings Jim and JoAnn Witte of Burleson, Texas, Janice Allen of Azle, Texas, Marvin and Sandra Witte of Hamilton, Texas, Leonard and Nancy Witte of Cleburne, Texas, Larry and Marilea Witte of Waco, Texas, and Mary and Donald Finch of Granger, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held for Ray on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 1:00 pm, at Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207
