

Emily Frank Bever died suddenly early in the morning of June 29, 2019 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was 92. Emily was born in Paducah, Kentucky. She grew up in Golconda, Illinois, and was orphaned at a young age when both of her parents succumbed to tuberculosis. She and her brother and sister were subsequently raised by their grandmother, Stella T. Wallace.Emily won a full scholarship to the University of Illinois, where she enrolled at age 16 and graduated at age 20, with a degree in accounting. She was co-valedictorian of the University Class of 1947, having earned a straight A average. She married her husband of nearly 49 years, at age 18 when he was in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After he completed his degree, they moved to Ames, Iowa where he earned a master’s degree in Chemistry at Iowa State University while she taught accountancy there. They moved to Berkeley, Missouri, where their three children were born and raised. Emily took time out to raise the children before returning to work. She worked as a school librarian for the Berkeley, Missouri school system and then returned to school to attain a teaching credential. She then served as a divisional assistant responsible for the fiscal operations of various federal programs for the St. Louis Public School system.
Prior to her retirement, she served as a part-time consultant and trainer in fourth generation software for the St. Louis Public School administration. After her husband's death, Emily moved to Melbourne, Florida to be nearer her daughter and to help care for her 2 grandchildren living there. Later, she moved to Jacksonville, Florida, when her daughter moved there. She then helped her recently widowed nephew, who was already residing in Jacksonville, with the care of his two young children. Emily was extremely fond of reading and was an avid birder, traveling to many countries with her birding groups. She had served several years as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), a Girl Scout leader, and a church librarian. She was awarded the titles of Duchess of Paducah and Kentucky Colonel. Emily was an active member at all her churches, serving in many capacities, and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church when she died. She was loved by all.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Bever in 1994, her son Joseph F. Bever in 1973, and her brother Wallace Frank in 1968. She is survived by her son, Glenn A. Bever (Irene) of Lancaster, California; her daughter, Theresa K. Moore (Bob) of Jacksonville, Florida; her sister, Stella Mosborg of Lisle, Illinois; three grandchildren, James E. Moore, David C. Moore (YunYun), and Samuel J. Bever; and several nieces and nephews.
