

Erolyn Jenkins McAuley died on February 20, 2015. She was born on December 21, 1930 in Westminster, Maryland, daughter of Dr. Edgar Bryan Jenkins and Antoinette Smith Jenkins. Lyn grew up in Nashville, North Caroline and graduated from Nashville High School in 1948. She played basketball and was valedictorian. She attended East Carolina College and Duke University. She played college basketball and was a member of Kappa Delta social sorority, Phi Beta Kappa and Chi Beta Phi honoraries. She studied medical technology at the University of North Carolina and the Medical College of Virginia. She attended the UNC School of Medicine and the University of Iowa medical school. Erolyn McAuley’s medical training included an internship at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital (Jacksonville) and the Jacksonville Hospital’s Education Program. She received her board certification from the American Academy of Pathology in 1964. She was a member of the Duval County Medical Society. She practiced at Hope Havens Children’s Hospital until the early 1980’s. She then worked alongside of her husband’s private Orthopedic practice, retiring in 1993. Lyn met her husband of 52 years, Reid, at the UNC Chapel Hill Medical School in 1959, and they married the same year. She was a member of the South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, San Jose Country Club, Ponte Vedra Country Club, the Halifax Club of Daytona Beach, Florida, and the Periwinkle Garden Circle of Jacksonville. She enjoyed travel, bridge, good movies, vacationing at the beach, and spending time with family and friend
She was preceded in death by her late husband Dr. E. Reid McAuley, Jr. in 2011. She is survived by her children, Byron (Bo) McAuley of Tallahassee, FL and Michael Lee McAuley (Lea) of Crawfordville, FL; four grandchildren, Nicole, Erica, Caleb, and Jacob; her sister-in-law, Ada Lee Pitts (Roland); nephew, Eric; and niece, Amanda, all of Mechanicsville, VA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11:00am at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, 2137 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, Florida, with Reverend Stephen C. Kolderup officiating. A reception will follow at the church.
Memorials may be made to South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, Northeast Florida Community Hospice (the Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring), or a charity of your choice.
