

Ms. Eugenia “Neenie” Long, 98, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully on Monday, June 5, 2023. Eugenia was born on March 1, 1925 in Meridian, MS to H.O. and Alice Long. She was the oldest and last surviving sibling, preceded in death by her sister, Betty Hume (2019) and her brother, Charles Lewis Long (2013).
The family settled in Jacksonville, FL in 1946 where her father began his career at the Florida East Coast Railroad. Eugenia graduated from Jacksonville University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in August 1967. She was a member of Spring Glen Methodist Church and Sunday school at the time of her passing and had been a long-time member of Glynlea Grace United Methodist. She enjoyed singing in the choir for many years and her time in the church brought her much joy and peace. She was passionate about crossword puzzles, music, and painting.
Eugenia is survived by her nephews, James Hume (Jan) and Alan Hume (Beverly); two great nieces, Melissa Teschke (Chris), Michelle Slattery (Brendan), and great nephew, Matthew Hume (Sandy); five great grand nieces and nephews, Evelyn, Charlie, Walter, Betty, and Freddie. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sara Long, Bartow, Florida.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to everyone at Some Place Like Home where she spent her last two years being loved and cared for by some amazing people.
We would also like to thank the many loving hands who touched Eugenia's life, especially the compassionate care provided by the Community Hospice and Palliative Care Team.
A private graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetary, 4300 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32207.
