Evelyn Anne Mudgett-Eager passed away on April 7th, 2024, at the age of 94, leaving a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Eager and her eldest son, Gary. She is survived by 2 sons and 4 daughters: James, Deborah, Mark, Denise, Dawn and Noel. Naturally, her children provided her with a large extended family.
Evelyn was born in Zion Illinois, as one of nine children. Her family moved to Gouverneur, NY when she was a child and then to Antwerp, NY, where she attended the Antwerp High School for her senior year. There she met Ralph and the two of them quickly became high school sweethearts. They both knew they had “hit the jackpot”, and their love blossomed into a wonderful marriage of 73 years.
Evelyn was a dedicated wife and mother, and her love for her husband and their 7 beautiful children, was evident in everything she did with, and for, her family, as they grew as 1 through the decades.
Evelyn spent years working at the Antwerp, NY Elementary and Philadelphia, NY Elementary schools, and retired in 1987. With her and Ralph having family living in FL, these 2 retirees quickly became snowbirds, enjoying their retirement years in Jacksonville, FL and at Pleasant Lake (Hammond, NY).
Evelyn delighted congregations for decades, as the organist at the Antwerp, NY United Methodist Church and the Brasie Corners, NY United Presbyterian Church. She spent countless hours volunteering to play for chorus rehearsals, weddings and special events. Congregations were lucky enough to enjoy Evelyn’s talent, even as Evelyn aged 90 years.
Throughout Evelyn’s life, she touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness and unwavering love. Her and Ralph spent their entire lives together, unselfishly giving all they could to those in need.
Evelyn spent the last 1 ½ years of her life at a nursing home in Jacksonville. She enjoyed socializing with anyone who cared to join her, so making new friends was really no task for her at all. They shared great joy and laughter while attending daily activities, playing cards, Bingo, Connect Four, and more.
Evelyn’s and Ralph’s cremains will be laid to rest at the Hillside Cemetery, Antwerp, NY.
A memorial service will be held on July 6th, 2024 at Pleasant Lake, where Evelyn's family and loved ones will spread some of her ashes into the lake, just as they had done with some of Ralph’s ashes in 2021.
Evelyn is loved and greatly missed by all.
REJOICE! RALPH and EVELYN once again enjoy each other’s company, in both BODY and SPIRIT!
