

Evelyn Deters Feltman, 92, of Columbia, SC, and Marietta, GA, died on Wednesday, December 17. Evelyn was the daughter of William Henry Deters and Helen Ladd Deters Crafts and grew up in Jacksonville, FL. She married James Feltman in 1952 with whom she had five children. Their early married life was lived in Jacksonville and Pensacola, FL. In 1964, they moved to Columbia. In addition to caring for her husband and 5 children, Evelyn earned a living as a seamstress, sewing bridesmaid dresses for many local weddings. She later worked as an offset press operator for the S.C. Department of Labor. Jim and Evelyn were actively involved at Incarnation Lutheran Church during their time in Columbia, with Evelyn especially involved in the social ministries of the church and delivering flowers to the homebound. In 1980, Jim and Evelyn moved to Marietta, GA. Evelyn continued her work as an offset press operator for Rollins, Inc., and later a local print shop. They were active members of Faith Lutheran Church in Marietta. They returned to Columbia in 2023 to be near their son, Gary, who was their primary caretaker in their final years.
In addition to her parents and sister, Carol Wilson, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, James (2024); two sons, James Ladd (1970) and Timothy Scott (2020). She is survived by two sons, Gary Feltman and Ronald Feltman; a daughter Barbara Caol Feltman; three grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Roskind.
Evelyn’s children are thankful for the good care given to Evelyn by the staff of Lexington Extended Care in the last months of her life and to Jim and Evelyn’s oldest grandchild, Pam Feltman who lovingly looked after “Granny Evelyn” and “Papa Jim” in their later years in Marietta.
Evelyn will be buried next to her husband and two sons at Restlawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fl, on Tuesday, December 20, 11:00 a.m.
