

Farideh Hanna Batteh, 92, longtime resident of Jacksonville, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Farideh immigrated to this country in 1948 from Ramallah, Palestine. She was a loving and nurturing mother, and the devoted matriarch of five generations. Her wisdom, strength of character, and spirit of self-sacrifice earned her the respect and admiration of the entire Ramallah community. Farideh was a devout member of St. George Antiochian Church and a lifetime member of the Ramallah-American Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hanna Joseph Batteh, and her daughter Jeanette Bateh. She leaves behind an extended family to cherish her love and memories, including her son, Dr. Jad (Jane) Batteh; her daughters Nuha (Jamil) Bateh, Salwa (Ramzi) Bateh, Rima (the late Kanaan) Bateh, Nadya (the late Fuad) Farah, Sameria (Norman) Nasir, and Kathy (William) Estes; and her brother, Farid Nicola Bateh. Visitation will begin at 5 PM on Friday, May 18, with a Trisagion at 6:00 PM at St. George Antiochian Church, 6300 Bowden Road, Jacksonville, officiated by the Very Reverend Fr. Kamal al-Rahil. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, May 19, at St. George. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
