

Dr. George M. Katibah, M.D., 81, of Jacksonville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 21, 2011. Born in Jacksonville to the late Mitchel and Mary Coury Katibah, Dr. Katibah was a loving and devoted husband and father. A 1947 graduate of Lee High School, he attended the University of Florida and Emory University. He graduated in 1955 from Emory University Medical School. After serving in the US Navy, he practiced Pathology at Baptist, Memorial, Riverside and Flagler Hospitals. Dr. Katibah was the Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Memorial Hospital from 1970-1975 and Memorial Medical Center from 1975-1984. Active for many years with the Florida Association of Blood Banks, he served as President in 1981. Dr. Katibah retired in April of 1999. Some of George's passions were sailing, traveling, golfing, hiking, music and most of all, family. He loved the outdoors and was an avid Jaguars fan. Preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Lori Kuhn Katibah, he is survived by his wife, Victoria Katibah; children, Kristin Katibah (Frank), Greg Katibah (Billie C.) and David Katibah; and many other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at All Saints Episcopal Church with The Rev. Tom Deppe officiating. Burial in Oaklawn Cemetery will follow. Family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue. Memorial contributions in Dr. Katibah's name may be made to Community Hospice of NE FL.
