George Stanton Scarlett IV

George Stanton (Stan) Scarlett IV, a retired accounting manager from CSX and current realot with ERA Davis & Linn, passed away suddenly November 30. He was 71. Born in Winston Salem, NC July 20, 1941, he graduated from RJ Reynolds High School in 1959. After 2 years at Wake Forest University he and 2 buddies with $42 in his pocket chose the "Route 66" experience but only made it as far as FL and never left. There he met his wife of 49 years, Macy Lorraine Scarlett who he married in 1963. They had 2 children. He graduated from JU in 1970.

While at CSX he discovered running and made lifelong friendships in the running community with many vacations spent running the New York, Boston, and Marine Corp marathons with these friends. For over 30 years Stan was a member of the FL Striders serving as president and treasurer. He was "tent" commander at each River Runfor the Striders. As runners we all appreciated the great food, warm coffee, separate changing rooms, private port-a-potties, and massage tables.

He enjoyed golfing, watching his grandson Cooper play baseball, and traveling having visited Yosemite Park in 2006, his dream vacation. He was very involved in the local business community as past President and Vice-President of the Executive Association of Jax.

Stan is predeceased by parents Edith Hartman Peake Scarlett and G.S. Scarlett III (Winston Salem). He is survived by wife Macy Lorraine Scarlett; sisters Romaine Saylor (Winston Salem, NC), Jessica Scarlett (Tampa), and Deyette Dodd (Beufort, SC); son Stanton Tyson Scarlett (June) (Jax), daughter Darcy Scarlett Jeffers (Dan) (Orlando), and grandsons Billy Goe and Cooper Jeffers. He also leaves behind several special nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home 11801 San Jose Blvd. at 6 p.m. Wed. Dec. 5. They family will receive friends starting at 5 p.m. As he wished, a party celebrating his life will immediately follow the service.
