Gloria Horne Bowden was born on December 26th, 1932, in Willimantic, Connecticut. At 91 years old, she passed peacefully in her sleep on October 23rd, 2024. She lived a good life. Thoughtful, caring, and a lover of all animals-especially cats. She was a strong, independent woman, loving mother and wife, the widow of William Bowden Jr, whom she will be laid to rest alongside of.
Throughout her life, Gloria was always helping people. She worked for Clay County Sheriff's Department as a school crossing guard for ten years, and after she retired, she continued to help save lives by feeding and taking care of many feral cat communities around Middleburg. She saved countless cats from being homeless and gave them love and attention until their final days.
Gloria is predeceased by her husband William Bowden, Jr., and her son Michael William Bowden. She is survived by her three children, Theodore Irving Bowden, Tammy Lynn Zier, and Nancy Yvonne Winters, along with her nine grandchildren Trent Bowden, Cami Dettmer, Brad Bowden, Chris Marvin, Cameron Winters, Carter Winters, Cooper Winters, Abigail Winters, and Addison Winters. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter. They will all miss her dearly.
Graveside services will be held at Mandarin Cemetery, Monday, October 28th, 2024, at 1pm, 12135 Mandarin Road, Jacksonville, FL 32223.
