Gwendolyn D. Carter

She was born and raised in Jacksonville to the late E.D. and Delma (Surrency) McKenzie.

She married Joseph Carter in 1966.

Gwendolyn taught kindergarten for 25 years at Dinsmore Elementary school. Many hundreds of children got their first taste of education from their beloved Mrs. Carter. She was a member of Dismore Baptist Church for many years, and a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Justin Carter (Sheryl); daughter Tanya Locke (Chad); grandchildren Dustin Hanson, Austin Locke, Allison Locke, Lane Carter, MacKenzie Carter, Cody Martin, Jennifer Martin, Jessilynn Martin.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 17, from 6 – 8 PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home 729 S. Edgewood Ave, Jacksonville. Funeral Service will be Thursday, April 18 at 10:00 at Dinsmore Baptist Church 10500 Old Kings Rd, Jacksonville with burial to follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
