Harriet Kenney Whitlow

Harriet Kenney Whitlow, age 93, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014 in Jacksonville, Florida. Harriet was born on May 26, 1921 in Savannah, Georgia to parents Bennett F. Kenney and Bertha V. Kenney. She attended Andrew Jackson High School and graduated in 1939. After attending business school, she was employed by Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph Company. She eventually became the Cost Accounting department manager and retired after 38 years of service. Harriet was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, where she was director of the Senior High Sunday School department and a member of the WMU and church choir. She later joined San Jose Baptist Church, and was currently a member of Southside Baptist Church. She was a very devoted and faithful member of her churches and loved serving her Lord, Jesus Christ. In her spare time, Harriet enjoyed volunteering at the Baptist Home for Children and the Florida Baptist Association for Senior Adults. She attended her high school reunions, as well as Southern Bell Pioneer Club and ESP events. Two more of her passions were playing the piano and travelling. In her later years, she decided to take ballroom dancing lessons. Harriet’s favorite pastime has always been spending time with and caring for her family. Harriet is survived by her two daughters, Karen Sharp and Susan Stutts (Jerry), and grandchildren, Todd and Lindsey Sharp, Lisa, Karen, and Brian Stutts. She is also survived by her nephews and nieces, Leon, Hal, Diane, Bennett, Becky, Allison, and Jessica. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur J. Whitlow; her sister, Dorothy Crews; nephew, Ben, and dear friend, “Pic”. She was able to remain in her home, due to the loving attention of her caregiver, Pat. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 15, 2014 with Rev. Gary Webber officiating.
