

Dr. Helen Socorro Dagdag Reyes, of Jacksonville, Florida and formerly from Stockton, California, passed away after a prolonged illness on December 29, 2022 at the age of 68.
Helen was born to Arturo Horlanda Reyes and Cirila Dagdag Reyes in Camiling, Tarlac, Philippines on September 22, 1954.
She studied premed at the University of the Philippines (UP)and earned her medical degree at UP - Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH).
In 1984, she immigrated to the United States and later finished her residency training in Pediatrics at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Oakland, California.
Helen was in private practice and later joined the Sutter-Gould Medical Group in Stockton and served the community for more than 25 years before her disability and retirement.
Despite a busy career, Helen was an active member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir.
She served as a member and President of the Filipino Medical and Allied Professionals (FILMAPS), a local organization that provides scholarship opportunities for Filipino-Americans with exemplary achievements in academics, sports or music. She was also a member of the FILMAPS Chorale and FILMAPS Dance Troupe, through which the group promoted Filipino cultural awareness throughout northern and central California.
Helen was also a member and President of the University of the Philippines Medical Alumni Society of America (UPMASA). The society continues to provide medical assistance and support medical education in the Philippines.
While Helen never married nor had any children, she was considered a second mom to all of her nephews and nieces and cared for them like her own children.
Helen served many roles throughout her life: daughter, sister, Tita and Doctor. Because of her big heart, she was a positive influence in the lives of many beyond family and friends. She also leaves behind a legacy of dedication and service to her patients that spans generations.
Helen leaves to cherish her loving memory to her three sisters and brother: Maria Yolanda (Gregory), Amelia (Randy), Winnie Ruth (Kelly), and Roberto Antonio (Tammie); her 13 nieces and nephews, and ten grandchildren; uncles, aunts and cousins from both the Philippines and California.
She will be missed by all she touched in her 68 years of life.
A visitation for Helen Socorro will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
