

Dean was a native of Jacksonville, Florida. His family settled in Glen St. Mary, FL in 1875. His maternal grandfather, Jefferson Carruthers, started the fingerprint program for the original Jacksonville City Police. His paternal grandfather, Henry Horace, was the master gardener hired by Ninah Cummer. Together they designed and planted the World Famous Cummer Museum Gardens. His uncle, Cliff Lauramore, was a chief with JFRD.
Dean was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. He joined the United States Army in 1957-1959 and continued his service (7yrs) with the Army Reserve as a MP (Military Police).
From 1959-1969, he worked for “The Towers” law firm until he joined the J.S.O.
On November 10, 1969, he joined the J.S.O. and started working in the Communications Center before going into Patrol. Officer Lauramore also worked in Vice, Narcotics and was assigned to the old Courthouse as a Police Officer. In 1992, Officer Lauramore was one of 10 Officers, that were selected by former Sheriff McMillan, to assist in the humanitarian efforts in South Miami after Hurricane Andrew. The group of Officers were jokingly dubbed in J.S.O. as “The Miami Boys”.
On January 11, 1997 Officer Lauramore retired with this agency after serving more than 27 years.
Dean spent one day retired before returning to work with the J.S.O. as a Bailiff in the courthouse. In 2004, after working in the courthouse for 7 years, he decided to finally retire from wearing a law enforcement uniform to enjoy his personal life.
After the courthouse, Dean and Anita continued their privately owned business “Ortega Traders” where his love for woodwork continued. Dean and Anita traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and several countries. He and his wife also served 1000+ volunteer hours working with the State and National Parks which involved numerous activities and events.
Dean enjoyed quality time with his family and friends until his passing. He was known for his positive attitude, ever-present smile and humor. He always had a joke or a story to tell. He was famous for what we call “Deanisms”.
He is survived by his wife Anita of 36 years; three children, Richard “Rick” McCann (Laura) ne' Lauramore, David McCann (Amber) ne' Lauramore and Deana Taylor nee' Lauramore, His sister, Terry Lauramore Berry (Gene) Cary, NC; his brother-in-law, George I Robinson Jr. (Lori), sister-in-Law; Laura Robinson Watson (Matthew); seven grandchildren, two nieces, four nephews and many cousins. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Horace Harold Lauramore and Christine Carruthers Lauramore and his sister, Barbara Lauramore Chambers.
Dean Lauramore will be cremated.
“Celebration of Life” will be announced at a later date.
