

Howard Eugene Funk, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2014. Howard was born in Catawba, SC. He attended school in Fort Mill, S.C. where he met the love of his life, Florence Starnes, his wife for over 70 years. Howard was drafted into the US Navy during World War II and was transferred to Jacksonville in 1944. After his discharge from the Navy he began a 30 year career at the U.S. Naval Air Station Jacksonville with NARFE. Howard loved God, his wife, his family, his cat, and good food. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. His generosity to others is beyond comparison. Howard was a founding member of the Lake Shore United Methodist Church where he was the long time treasurer and youth counselor. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and Morocco Temple of the Shrine where he recently received his 65 year member recognition. Howard is survived my numerous, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Special recognition is given to his long term caretaker Lois Hall and to the staff of Clyde E Lassen Veterans Nursing Home for the exceptional love and care they provided to Howard. Funeral Services will be held at the Lake Shore United Methodist Church, 2246 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, Fl on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 11:00AM. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at 11 am Friday at Grandview Memorial Park, 620 S. Cherry Road, Rock Hill S.C. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Clyde E Lassen Resident’s Activity Fund, 4650 State Road 16, St. Augustine, Fl 32092.
