Iris Carlene Elliott of Jacksonville, Florida entered into heavenly peace on October 29, 2021. She was a devoted member of Lake Forest Church of Christ. She was retired from a teaching career that spanned over 40 years from Crossville, Tennessee to Jacksonville. She touched the lives of so many of her 3rd grade students and continued to hear from many of them years after retiring. She enjoyed studying scripture, reading, puzzles, story-telling festivals, entertaining her friends and traveling back to her hometown of Crossville. Most of all she enjoyed and dearly loved her family. Carlene’s life was a constant expression of joy, grace and love. Her faith and devotion to God were the cornerstone of who she was. She was always concerned about others before herself, and those who were privileged to know her were touched in a way that was life changing.
She was predeceased by her husband, Colonel John Elliott and step daughter Patty Suzanne Elliott, sisters Frances Hedgecoth Banner, Pearl Hedgecoth, Lennis Compton, and brothers Joe Hedgecoth, Chester Hedgecoth, Burr Hedgecoth and William Hedgecoth. She leaves behind her nieces that loved her dearly, Carla Banner Grayson and Jule Banner Seals. She cherished her great nieces Kathryn Grayson Jessup and Charissa Taite Seals and great nephews Jarrod Grayson and Jack Grayson. She also leaves behind her dear step daughter Barbara Elliott Lam, husband Bing, and family, and step son John Scott Elliott and family. In addition she leaves behind her dearly loved friends Dean and Toni Franklin and their family. The family wants to express their sincere gratitude to her beloved caregiver Sandy McCracken.
