Jacob Dean "Jake" Medley, age 9, passed away peacefully at home on April 28, 2014, after a courageous battle with Late Infantile Batten Disease. Jake was born to Dean and Jennifer Medley on September 24, 2004.
Prior to symptoms of his illness appearing at age 3, Jake was a typical and happy baby and toddler. Jake's life inspired many, and he was surrounded by a supportive and loving community, especially his church family at Lakewood United Methodist Church, for which his family will be forever grateful. He enjoyed his early elementary school years at Mandarin Oaks Elementary, where he was loved and well cared for, as well as his preschool years at Lakewood Presbyterian Preschool.
Jake was preceded in death by his grandmother, Helen Virginia "Ginger" King. In addition to his father, mother, and sisters, Jake is survived by his grandparents Kenneth and Lou Nell Medley, and John "Buck" and Rosie Fannin. Also surviving are his aunts and uncles, Jeff and Laura Jacqmein, and Richard and Amy Fannin. He also leaves behind first cousins Ben, Olivia, and Henry Jacqmein; and Clark, Julia, Mary Cecilia, Amelia, and Joseph Fannin, as well as numerous other extended family members.
The family will receive friends from five until seven o’clock in the evening on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at The Oaklawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, May, 2, 2014 at Lakewood United Methodist Church.
