August 6, 2024
Jacqueline Ogilvie, a true New York original, passed away on August 6, 2024 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Jacksonville, Florida, just shy of her 91st birthday. She was born on Staten Island, New York and was a legal secretary in law firms in lower Manhattan.
Always the life of the party, Jacqueline reveled in an active social life with her childhood friends; they delighted in their summer vacations at the New Jersey Shore as well as their winter excursions to European destinations.
After her retirement, Jacqueline left the hustle and bustle of New York City and relocated to Callahan, Florida, where she appreciated the tranquility of rural life. She derived great satisfaction driving her pick-up truck as she proudly maintained her large property. Fiercely independent, she was adept at fixing nearly everything. She was passionate about her flower garden. A life-long pet mom of Scottish terriers, Jacqueline found that it was Edmund who particularly stole her joyful heart; they shared a devotion to each other, perhaps due to their common feisty and independent natures.
When Jacqueline later moved to Jacksonville, she cheerfully drove her friends to their appointments, babysat, sang in a choir, and planned holiday parties. Most recently, Jacqueline was fond of painting wooden birdhouses and birds, which she generously donated to cancer patients. She found great peace each morning in going down to the banks of the St. John’s River.
Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Margaret Ogilvie, and her sister, Lorraine Helmer.
A graveside service will be conducted by Fr. John Reynolds at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Ogilvie Cemetery, located on Hargett Road off Lannie Road in Jacksonville, Florida.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, Jacksonville, Florida.
