She was born to Inez and JB Strickland in Valdosta, GA. The family moved to Waycross, GA when she was young. After graduating from Waycross High School, she met her husband Wallace Seaborn Sweat. They moved to Jacksonville, FL where they started their life as a family.
She had a very strong work ethic, having gotten her first job when she was 14 and never going without at least one job until she retired at 70. She worked for American National Bank (also called American Bank) in San Marco for over 40 years. She also worked for Merrill Lynch Credit Corp. for almost 10 years. She did volunteer work for several entities including Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Channel 7, and The Player’s Championship. But her proudest and happiest volunteering was as a Fair Lady for the Greater Jacksonville Fair Association and for St. Vincent’s Hospital in Fernandina and in Clay County.
Jackie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wallace; a son, Derek; a brother, Moi; and a sister Marion.
She is survived by her son, Randy (Beth); brother, Jerome Strickland; grandchildren, Anita Bryant (Sean); Matthew Sweat (Heather); Jack, Mark, Nicole, and Joe Sweat; and one great-grandchild, Oliva Bryant, whom she loved dearly. Her greatest pride was her family. She constantly boasted about their accomplishments and successes.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Friday, February 11, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home at 11801 San Jose Blvd.
