

Born in 1931 in Mobile, Alabama, to Annis Irene (Barton) Brown and John B Brown. He enlisted in the Coast Guard from 1948 - 1951. After his time in the Coast Guard, he lived in New Orleans, Louisiana where he met and married his bride of 54 years, Bertha (Jimenez) Brown. The family moved to Jacksonville in 1965 where he worked as an Air Traffic Controller for the US Government for over 33 years before retiring in 1988.
James was preceeded in death by his wife Bertha. He is survived by his son James and wife Virginia (Biron) Brown and their children Christian, Jackie (and husband Olex Zaragoza) and Adrianna; son Steven and wife Christie (Phillips) Brown and their children Alexis and Victoria; daughter Angela (Brown) Bacon and husband Todd and their children Alexander, Conner, Jackson, and Mary Grace; and, his daughter Elizabeth (Brown) Traud and husband Timothy and their children Olivia and Hannah.
A man of immense faith who passed that legacy down to his children and grandchildren, he will be missed terribly by his family and all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd on Friday, August 26th from 6pm – 8 pm with a rosary at 7 pm. Funeral mass will be Saturday, August 27, 10:00 am at Resurrection Catholic Church 3383, University Blvd. N, Jacksonville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Resurrection Catholic Church.
