James Lamar Coats Sr.

Prior to retirement Mr. Coats served his country in the U.S. Navy for 26 years. He was a veteran of WWII and served during Korea and Vietnam retiring as a Chief. James has been a resident of the Jacksonville area since 1961.

He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Ouida Coats and a grandson T.J. Cantrelle. He is survived by three sons, James L. Coats Jr (Elaine) of Fernandina Beach, FL, Joseph L. Coats of Katy TX, and John L. Coats (Cindy) of St. Augustine, FL and two daughters, Beverly Foret (Buddy) of Lockport, LA, Cindy Bedient (Phil) of Houston, TX and a brother, Pete Johnson (Elizabeth) of Atlanta, GA. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Bryan, Michael, Justin, Hayden, Courtney, Eric, Christy, April, Leon and Amy and great-grandchildren, Ben, Lexi, Reagan, Brock, Joseph, Jake, Christopher, Jessica and Jay.

A visitation will be on Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:00 am with a funeral service at 11:00 am at the Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home, 4300 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32207. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Community Hospice of N.E Florida.
