Janis Rene Breslin, 72, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2023 with family at her side after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was born in Macon, Georgia to Hollan and Dorothy (Hicks) Hawkins who both preceded her in death. Janis graduated from Englewood High School in 1968 and worked in the financial and mortgage industry for over 55 years.
She will be missed immensely by her husband, Robert J. Breslin Jr. of 36 years, and her daughter, Shannon (Missy Durante) Depiesse of Charleston, SC. She will also be missed by Beverly Ruger (her sister-in-law and family from Eaton Rapids, Michigan), relatives, friends, neighbors, and coworkers at JP Morgan Chase.
She is known for her sweet soul, generosity, and intelligent nature. A loving mother and wife who always put others first. Her daughter, Shannon, was her “Sugarbook” and they cherished every single moment together. Her husband, Robert, brought a smile to her face and could always make her laugh with a quick joke. Janis was a loving daughter to her parents, a proud mother of her daughter, an endearing wife to her husband, and had a special love of her house cats as well as the feral neighborhood cats.
She is remembered as being remarkably beautiful, modest, and caring of others. She was a giving soul and was always eager to randomly do an anonymous good deed. Her love for others will live on daily as her legacy.
Janis and her family are thankful to her entire health care team at Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center, especially her nurse, Darlene, who endured many treatments by her side since her diagnosis. In addition, a heartfelt appreciation goes to Community Hospice, particularly Jessica, who sang Patsy Cline songs to her during weekly visits.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 3 from 6pm-8pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, Florida 32223, and the funeral ceremony will be at same location on Saturday, March 4 at 1pm with burial to follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations on her behalf may be made to either the Baptist MD Anderson Brain Tumor Research Endowment or the Jacksonville Humane Society.
