

SIMPSON Jerry M. Simpson, 77, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 5, 2012 in Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville, FL. Jerry was born March 21, 1935 in Nashville, Tennessee to Pearl Ailene Simpson and Marion E. Simpson. Jerry grew up in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and graduated from Lacy High School. He later attended Tennessee Tech. Institute and served in the U. S. Army stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. He retired from Southern Bell after a long, successful career. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Marion E. Simpson, his wife of 43 years, Anita Scott Simpson, and his second wife Joan Wingo Simpson. Those left to mourn his loss and celebrate his life are his 97 year old mother, Pearl Ailene Simpson, his children, Debbie Gossman, Gail Powell, Christopher Simpson, Joseph Simpson, step-children, Andrea Ford and A.J. Lindeen, grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Nicholas Gossman, Shaun Simpson, Amber Simpson, Oren Powell, Lacey Powell, Victoria Powell, Cohen Powell, Sonia Simpson. step-granddaughter Danielle Ford; great grandsons, Ethan and Braden Gossman and Shaun Simpson; sisters, Jean Simpson Kiker and Mary Ann Simpson Delany. Jerry loved little children and animals. He and his wife Anita provided a Foster Home for over 25 Foster babies. He also took in and cared for many animals. At the time of his death he had in his home his son's dog "Kila Pup", and Jerry's cat, "Amanda Blake" or as he called her "Miss Kitty".Jerry was an avid sports fan and loved football, basketball, golf, baseball, tennis and bowling. Among his favorite teams were the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Kentucky Wildcats.He was a deacon and pre-school teacher at Terry Parker Baptist Church for many years & most recently taught Sunday School at Friendship Community Church. Jerry credited AA for saving his life many years ago and devoted the rest of his life working with and for a local AA Chapter. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday April, 14, 2012 at Friendship Community Church, 1410 Tutter St. Jacksonville, FL. 32211. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Children's Home Society of Florida /Buckner Division, P.O. Box 5616, Jax, FL. 32247 .
