Joan C. Burns of AmeliaIsland, formerly of Jacksonville, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 18, 2014. She was born in New York City and met her husband, who predeceased her, Francis A. “Frank” Burns while working with him at the FBI. They were eventually transferred to Jacksonville in 1968 and were members of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was an administrative assistant to both the Director of Admissions at JacksonvilleUniversity and the Dean of the College of Health at UNF. For the past 8 years she has resided with her daughter in FernandinaBeach and was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She is survived by her three children, Kevin Burns, Patti Burns (both of Jacksonville) and Mary Walker (Fernandina) and five grandchildren, Doug, Casey and Kate Walker, and Michael and Alexia Burns, who all agree “She was Great!”
