Joel was born in Norfolk, Virginia to Kimpril and Charles Richardson. He moved to Jacksonville when he was 4 years old and grew up in the Lakewood area. He loved music, sports and animals. Joel was a licensed Dietician and worked at various nursing homes. Later in life, he worked in the construction industry.
Joel is preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Jane Richardson and two brothers: Randy Rogers and Charles Richardson Jr. He is survived by his brother David Richardson (Lynn), two sisters: Regina Harrington (Rick) and Kristen Scarborough (Alan), his partner Lisa Shelkey, his ex-wife Pat Richardson (Beth and Annie) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Joel will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Cemetery alongside his family on Thursday, March 30th at 11:30 AM. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society.
