John R. Mount, loving son and brother, and devoted husband for thirty-four years, passed away peacefully on August 18th, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on February 8, 1947, in Winter Haven, Florida, to the late John F. and Minneota Bowen Mount. He graduated from Haines City High School and earned two Associate degrees from the College of the Air Force.
John joined the U.S. Air Force in 1966, and proudly served his country for over 20 years before retiring from the Pentagon in 1987. He was a Viet Nam Veteran. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, DC as an information specialist/system analyst. After his second retirement in 2007, the “Florida boy” came back home to the Gator Nation.
Having earlier in his life been an outstanding athlete and golfer, John became a member of the American Pool Association after moving to Jacksonville. For several years he was Co-captain of the Rack’em Up team and a teammate of the Royal Pirates. He was known for his love of animals, his delightful personality, his kindness, and his grand sense of humor, which created joy and laughter for all around him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Colquitt Mount; his precious sister, Marilyn Mount; his beloved aunt, Libby Bowen; his cousin, Forrest Bowen, Jr.; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fletcher and Shirley Smith. He also survived by many, many wonderful friends.
John never met a stranger, only a potential friend!
