John W. Pierson

John William Pierson, 86, of Jacksonville, FL and formerly of Sidney, NY, died March 13, 2012 from complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born December 13, 1925 in East Guilford, NY, the son of George and Harriett Pierson. John attended High School in Norwich, NY where he played football, basketball and track. In 1946 he received an Honorable Discharge from the US Navy and then graduated from Hartwick College in 1951. John was married to Maureen Truax on July 27, 1957 and lived in Sidney, NY where he worked as a Sales Representative for Bendix Corporation and raised his family. In 1983 he relocated to Jacksonville, FL and retired in 1988. John was preceded in death by his brother Richard and his wife, Maureen. He is survived by one daughter and son in law, Karen and Richard Elrod of Jacksonville, FL; two sons and daughter in laws, John and Mary Pierson of Gainesville, VA, and Bob and Connie Pierson of Longmeadow, MA; a niece, Patricia Sutherland of Elkhart, IN; and seven grandchildren. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Dad will be greatly missed. The Family would like to thank John’s caregivers for all their kindness and support over the years. Calling hours will be Saturday, March 31 from 11am – 1pm followed by a 2pm Memorial Service at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME at 4115 Hendricks Avenue in Jacksonville.
