John Corey Walker, 42, passed away on November 30, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida. He hailed from the city of barbeque and blues, Memphis, Tennessee. He was born on October 31, 1982, John lived a life filled with purpose, humor, and unwavering love for his family, friends, colleagues, and clients.
Though many called him “John” or “Johnny,” to his family, he was simply “Corey”—a name that carried the weight of love and cherished memories. With his sharp wit and unrivaled storytelling, he transformed ordinary moments into extraordinary ones. John was not just a man; he was a force—a vibrant spirit whose laughter and sarcasm echoed like a joyful anthem throughout the years.
A Life of Love and Devotion
John's greatest role was that of a devoted husband and father. To many they were known as the “infinitely patient Sarah” and “Jude the Dude”. His love story with Sarah began in the youth group at Glynlea Grace United Methodist Church, where a chance encounter grew into an unbreakable bond. High school sweethearts turned soulmates, they married on November 26, 2005, five years to the day after their journey began. Together, they built a life filled with love and purpose, welcoming their son, Judah, in April 2014. Judah, a perfect combination of John’s steadfastness and Sarah’s kind-hearted nature, was the light of John’s life. As a devoted husband and proud father, John cherished Sarah and Judah above all else, finding immense happiness in their shared memories and adventures.
A Scholar and Leader
A graduate of Jacksonville’s Terry Parker High School (2001), John pursued excellence in both education and career. He earned a Master of Science in Financial Planning and Services from the American College of Financial Services (2024) and attained multiple certifications, including Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy®, Accredited Estate Planner®, and Certified Financial Planner®. As Managing Director of Wealth Management, at Capital Wealth Advisors, Johnny earned a reputation not only for his achievements and dedication but also for his enthusiasm, humor, and magnetic personality. He left a lasting impression as trusted leader, beloved colleague, financial advisor, and friend.
The Music of His Soul
Music was the rhythm of his life. He began playing the drums at church at a very young age. As a teenager, he co-founded a rock band with his friends, Michael and Chris. He played the drums, and his unique skill and style, shaped by his diverse musical influences, helped bring a powerful and distinct rhythm section to the band’s sound. The band shared many fond memories of practices, shows, and recording sessions together, not just as bandmates, but as the best of friends. His passion for music endured, whether strumming his guitar or banjo or filling his home with melodies that spoke to his soul, music was ever present in his daily life. He was thankful to share this love with his Uncle Rolando (Auntie Val) and brother, Andy.
A Renaissance Man
He wore many hats in his short lifetime. He was a self-proclaimed bearded wonder, a man that never met a stranger, a craftsman, a baker of fine sourdough breads, a master in the bbq pit, a talented artist, a collector and restorer of cast irons, a begrudgingly fantastic cat dad, a builder of fine watches, a lover of nature, a wordsmith that would have knocked this out of the park, and so much more. Most recently, alongside Judah, he trained in Martial Arts under Mr. N. Coronado and Master S. Vujanovic. He earned his First Degree Black Belt in May of 2024—a testament to his resilience and dedication. In every pursuit, John found joy, leaving an indelible legacy of creativity, curiosity, and boundless enthusiasm for life.
Legacy of Love
John is survived by his devoted wife, Sarah; their beloved son, Judah; his parents, Danny (Jennie) and Cabiria (Skip); his in-laws, Terry (Theresa); his younger brother, Andy; his step-sisters, Elaine and Jennifer; and countless friends, family, clients, and colleagues who were touched by his extraordinary spirit.
Celebration of Life
A service honoring John Corey’s incredible life will be held at Friday Musicale in Jacksonville, Florida, on December 22, 2024, at 12 noon. Corey and Sarah said “Till death do us part” here, 19 years ago, and now we’ll all say “until next time”. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Capital Wealth Advisors Annual Turkey Drop [CWAturkeydrop.com (proceeds go to St Matthew’s House)], an event he enjoyed attending and participating in yearly. A donation would reflect John’s generous and compassionate spirit but also, honor a cause that was dear to his heart.
Though his time with us was far too brief, John Corey Walker leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and inspiration. His memory will forever resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him, a melody that will never fade.
