Justine Sistrunk Shippey

Justine Sistrunk Shippey, 95, passed away on March 4, 2017, after a long illness. A proud Florida native, she was born in Jacksonville, Florida October 28, 1921 to her parents Irene Crawford Sistrunk and William Jackson Sistrunk. She was preceded in death by her son, Dr. John E. Shippey, Jr.; two brothers, William Jackson “Buddy” Sistrunk, Jr. and Thomas Jefferson Sistrunk and sister, June Wetzel. Justine is survived by her loving husband of 75 years, John E. Shippey; four daughters, Sandra Shoemaker (Vaughn), Patricia Stores, Mary Cade (Rob) and Martha Hartmann (Bob); 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to managing the family business, she had many interests. She was a member of the Jacksonville Running Club and was actively involved for years in the Southern Genealogist’s Exchange Society researching both her and her husband’s ancestry. She was an avid reader and had had an inquisitive mind. She was an amazing cook and made everything from scratch. She attended Riverview Elementary and Kirby Smith Junior High Schools and graduated in 1938 from Andrew Jackson High School. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Services will be held at a later date.
