Kathleen Ann Givens

Kathleen Ann Givens passed away on June 2nd, 2016. Kathleen was born on November 7, 1957, in Kansas City, KS, to Andrew and Josephine Bukaty. After graduating, from the University of Kansas, with her master’s degrees, she taught, for 29 years, in Duval County Public Schools. During her years in education, she taught at Ed White High School, Mandarin Middle School, Wolfson High School, and Mandarin High School. Kathy participated in sports her whole life and served as a basketball and softball coach. She was, also, proud to be a Mandarin Mustang Mom. Kathleen taught mathematics and, at Mandarin High, championed the AICE program, receiving international recognition for her accomplishments. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Steve Givens; son, Wesley Givens; daughter, Jessica Givens; brothers, Steve (Marie) Bukaty, and Andrew (Barbara) Bukaty; sister Gerry (Terry) Bukaty; grandchildren, Cassey, and Brendan Michael; mother-in-law, Maxine Givens; brothers-in-law, Mike (Saundra) and Bob; her Mustang son, Charlie and a host of other family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, June 8th at the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Kate was an animal lover and, besides the spoiled pets that she had, contributed yearly to the Defenders of Wildlife. With that in mind, her family prefers, in lieu of flowers, any contribution to that organization or, if preferred, The American Cancer Society.
