

CDR Leon McCoy (Steve) Stevenson (USN retired) continued his 80 year journey to Eternal Life on 09/08/2015. Steve was born 29 September 1935 in Pulaski, TN, eldest child of Leon Stevenson Sr and Sara Leo Williams Stevenson.
He was valedictorian and class President for the first graduating class of Frayser High School in Memphis TN. He also received degrees from Vanderbilt University (BA), University of Southern California (MA) and University of North Florida (MSH). He proudly served for 26 years in the United States Navy with action in Lebanon and Viet Nam as well as England, the Pentagon and Naval Air Station Jacksonville. He earned 2 Distinguished Fly Crosses, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 13 Air Medals, 3 Navy Commendation Medals with combat distinguishing device and a dozen other campaign and service medals and ribbons.
Steve regretted leaving behind his loving and loyal wife of more than a quarter of a century, Barbara Reynolds Stevenson. He is also survived by his daughters, Sara Lynn Stevenson Sarna (Ed) and Mary Beth Stevenson, both of Milwaukee WI and his son, John Clayton Stevenson, Pensacola, Fl, step daughter, Emily Ellis Donohoe (Michael), Champaign IL; a sister, Elizabeth Boswell, Memphis TN and a brother, William Stevenson (Lanie), Woodland Park CO; grandsons, Joshua Stevenson Sarna and Nicholas Michael Donohoe.
Special thanks to his most devoted care giver, Sarina Edge (Mike), his most loyal sidekick, Fred Breedon (Kay) and to the staff of Community Hospice for all of their loving attention and kindness.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 4129 Oxford Av, Jacksonville Fl at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14 with a reception to follow in Leatherbury Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Wounded Warriors, St. Mark’s Episcopal Day School or a charity of your choice.
