

Leonard Gosse, age 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 17, 1939 in Hartford, Connecticut. Leonard was a graduate of Weaver High School in Hartford, Connecticut where he played football. After high school he entered the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Maloy out of New London, Connecticut. After proudly serving his country, he attended college at Hartford Community College. While there, he played in a softball league and was a SNE TEL State Champion. His profession included Electronics and Telecommunications where he assisted on the Apollo Space Project and worked on special projects for the Bell phone company. In later years, he owned a Lighting company in Jacksonville, Florida. He was always a passionate supporter of his children’s activities that included church youth groups, musical talents, and sports.
Gosse is predeceased in death by his parents Richard and Rose Gosse of Newfoundland, Canada, his only brother Donald Gosse and wife Carol of Cedarburg, Wisconsin and numerous other loved ones and friends. Leonard is survived by his wife of 53 years Mary Beth Handel Gosse and his three children Tracy Gosse O’Sullivan, Kimberly Gosse, Keith Gosse and wife Jennifer Ehlers Gosse. He had five grandchildren, Ellie Gosse, Zara Gosse, Dylan Delaney, Garrett Gosse, and De’Mya Gray. Also survived by niece Debbie Gosse Roberts, husband George, and children of Mequon, Wisconsin. Nephew Brett Gosse, wife Lynn, and children of Appleton, Wisconsin. Sister-in-law Valerie Cousino, nephews David, Joseph, and Larry Cousino, niece Cindy Cousino and families all from Meriden, Connecticut. Niece Maria Putnam, husband David, niece Gina Wrobel. Niece Jennifer Plunske, nephew Bill Plunske, and wife Lorraine and extended families all from Meriden, Connecticut. Cousin Weldon Seymour and extended family members in Newfoundland, Canada.
The family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful and dedicated nurses and staff at St. Vincent’s Southside for his final care. Mr. Gosse’s celebration of life services will be held on Monday, July 19th, 2021 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge, 4801 San Jose Boulevard in Jacksonville, Florida 32207. Visitation and viewing at 9 am, Service at 10 am, Reception at 10:30 am, Processional at 11:30 am, and Interment at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 12:30 pm on 4083 Lannie Road Jacksonville, Florida 32218.
