
Leonard James Turner died on February 4, 2011. Leonard was born on January 12, 1943 to Martha and Joe Turner in Warm Springs, Georgia. He spent his growing up years in Gay, Georgia with his grandparents, Ludie and J.W. Clark. After graduating from Greenville High School, he earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia. He joined the Army following graduation and was stationed at Fort Knox, KY. His military career included three tours of duty in Vietnam, service at the Pentagon, and several years' duty in Korea. He attended the United States War College, earning a Masters in Business Administration. He retired after twenty years of duty with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He returned to Georgia where he quickly became bored with the quiet life. He worked for several years as a consultant to Saudi Arabia developing supply and logistic capabilities. In 1992, he settled in Jacksonville, Florida. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Helen Turner; sister, Eleanor T. Franklin; brother, Hilton Dempsey, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life for family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 3:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.
