Born in Cam Sur, Philippines on February 1, 1936, he was the youngest child to the late Julia and Juan Encinas. After graduating from Ateneo de Naga, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1964. During his twenty-two years of service, he experienced this wonderful world living with his family in tow on both of America’s coasts in the states of Washington, California, Pennsylvania, and Florida. Jacksonville, FL ultimately became home where he proudly attended all four of his children’s college graduations and became the happiest Lolo to seven grandchildren and many grand-pets.
After retiring from the Navy, he worked with the U.S. Postal Service for twenty years before fully immersing himself in his many interests. He delighted in growing, cooking, and sharing his garden’s bounty. His favorite pastimes included fishing, bowling, woodworking, and admiring Christmas lights. Lolo never knew any item beyond repair and could ‘MacGyver’ anything. When he finally did sit still, he was rarely without a deck of cards dealing game after game of solitaire often with boxing, pro wrestling, or current events on television. He found spiritual healing through regular prayer and attending Catholic mass. Lolo reveled in holiday and birthday celebrations and sharing great feasts with his beloved family.
He awaits his wife Herminia and their children, Carmen (Matt), Leo, Christine, and Chris (Orlena); their grandchildren, Kirra (Liz), Seth, Reeves, Kane, Trinity, Nathan, and Emma. He is also survived by his sister, Cristina Encinas, and family in the Philippines and Australia.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local animal shelter in memory of Lolo’s love for animals.
A visitation for Leoncio will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 1pm until 2pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Mandarin Chapel, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223, followed by a funeral service at 2pm.
