Born on January 19, 1937, in Baker County, FL to Forest John Combs and Minnie (Taylor) Combs, Lewis was the youngest of 5 children. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother George Combs (Willa), sister Joyce Cowart (H.G.), and an infant sister who passed away shortly after birth.
Lewis is survived by his loving and devoted wife Camille Pietrasanta Combs, son Michael Combs (Jessica), daughter Lisa Burden (Dennis), grandchildren Ashley Savage (Brooks), Kelly Burden, Casey Bradstreet (Wayne), David Combs, great granddaughters Madelyn and Lily Savage, and brother James Combs (Ann).
Born near the end of the Great Depression, Lewis learned the value of hard work at an early age. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High, and was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 22. After basic training, he was sent to Germany as an infantryman, where he remained until the end of his enlistment. Lewis returned to Jacksonville and was introduced to Camille on a blind date. They were married in 1965, and lived and loved each other together for the next 58 years. The two of them made a beautiful life that their children and grandchildren will look back on fondly and remember the love that was shared.
Lewis was employed by Florida Gas/Peoples Gas for over 40 years, and was a proud union member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers local 1754.
He loved any type of sporting event, but in his house, the Florida Gators and Jacksonville Jaguars reigned supreme. He was an avid fisherman and golfer, was known for some epic one liners, and enjoyed playing some lively games of 31 with his brothers and sister where the top prize was a few dimes. He served as a Deacon at Maranatha Baptist Church, where he also sang in the choir and enjoyed many fun evenings of fellowship with his senior group. Lewis lived his life to the fullest and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
