Lew was a graduate of the University of Florida, and was engaged in the sale of electrical supplies in Jacksonville for 44 years, first in the Meisel family business, Hall Mark Electric Supply, and then his own company, Lew Electrical Supply. Many electrical contractors in Jacksonville obtained their first credit for their young businesses from Lew. Lew was heavily involved in the Jacksonville Jewish community, being a past president of Jewish Family and Community Services, a vice president of the Jacksonville Jewish Center, and his passion, River Garden Hebrew Home, where he served as president of the home and of the Coves, the independent living facility on the campus. No significant event happened in River Garden for almost 50 years without Lew's intimate involvement. After all the years Lew served River Garden, River Garden served Lew beautifully in his last years.
Lew was an extremely devoted family man, and is survived by his wife of almost 37 years, Evelyn, 4 children, Steven, Rachel, Beth (Ed) Glad and Bill (Lynn Collins) as well as a stepson, Charlie (Lisa) Hazouri. He had 6 grandchildren, Deborah, Michael, Jennifer, Kirsten, Sydney and Olivia, as well as a step granddaughter, Christina Hazouri. He was a warm, kind, totally generous man who was dearly loved by his family.
Lew's funeral will be held on Monday, March 22, 2021 at the New Center Cemetery, 43rd and Liberty Street at 11 am. Rabbi Jonathan Lubliner will officiate. Post funeral visitation will unfortunately be severely restricted by covid considerations. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the Jacksonville Jewish Center or River Garden.
