

Lieutenant Ruth Elizabeth Gibson, 98, died at Brookdale Atrium Way in Jacksonville, FL on February 4, 2018. Lieutenant Ruth Elizabeth Gibson was a World War II Army Nurse. She was part of the 95th ward medical hospital and the 104th. She spent her entire life “taking care of her boys.”
Lieutenant Ruth Elizabeth Gibson was born on September 29, 1919 in Philadelphia, PA to Nelson Geiger Gibson and Elizabeth Marie Blum Gibson. After her honorable discharge, Ruth worked for General Motors in the Philadelphia and Morristown, NJ Zone office until her retirement.
She is survived by her sister, Doris Marie Gibson Emmel; her nephew, David Thomas Emmel (Dolly); her niece, Lisa Marie Emmel McKenna (Richard); her great nephew, Aaron Thomas Emmel (Allison), her great nephew Matthew Eugene Emmel, her great niece Lauren Ann Emmel Geneau (Joe); and her great-great nieces Nora and Sadie Emmel.
The family would like to thank Brookdale Atrium and to the members of Vitas for their loving care of an amazing woman. Lieutenant Ruth Elizabeth Gibson would also want to thank “her boys” at Brookdale Atrium for their beautiful friendships.
Lieutenant Ruth Elizabeth Gibson will be laid to rest in the Jacksonville National Cemetery with military honors at 1 p.m. February 23, 2018. The service will be officiated by The Revered Hesse, a Vitas Hospice Veteran Representative. Funeral arrangements will be provided by Corey-Kerlin.
